WELCOME TO OUR MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY
REALISE YOUR DREAM |
FAQThe UK Wing Chun Assoc: London Martial Arts Academy was specifically featured in GMTV in 2005 as an outstanding martial arts training facility.
Our centre is a large 2000 sq ft professional Martial Arts studio that boasts two training areas. The first of which is a small 'Workout' area with a limited range of Free Weights and benches, and other equipment. The second and probably the most important is the Kwoon (martial training room - which is often referred to as a Dojo in Japanese Martial Arts), which is fitted with a range of Heavy Bags, Wing Chun Wall Bags and three Wooden Dummies as well as training mirrors and other equipment. |
| Can I Start At Anytime....? |
|
As a rule no. We have beginners
start dates for new starters, hence, you will not be ‘thrown in
at the deep end’ with more expereinced students. Our policy is
to keep students of particular levels training together, which menas
that our classes are separated by ability. There
will be times when we will allow more experienced students to mix with
beginners, as they can help you, but not vice versa.Note,
If you are an existing wing chun student or lapsed student of another
organization we will be happy to accommodate you to the appropriate
class that your standard dictates. Please discuss this matter directly
with Mark Phillips Sifu. |
| Am I Too Old To Start? |
| |
The likely answer is no. We have students
from 6 to 70 years of age. Older students do tend to find it more difficult
as they are more 'set' neuro-muscularly. However, they do progress and
tend to improve well. The biggest problem is the students' own expectations
in that they have so much enthusiasm but the results don't come quickly
enough. If you realize it is a marathon not a sprint you will tend to
relax and take each step at a time, and not look too far ahead! read more |
| Do I Have To Be Fit To Start? |
| |
One of the ambitions of nearly every student
is to improve their fitness at some level. All beginners are treated carefully
and the training begins with gentle exercise and education before any
real strenuous activity is emphasized. We do encourage you to continue
with any exercise program you may be undertaking. We often find that students
who have never exercised undertake to do so in other ways in addition
to their martial art training. We find the general health and fitness
improvement in most students is considerable and is generally continued
as their desire to improve their Wing Chun skills grows. Students find
that if they are fit they are able to train for longer in class with focus
and concentration and develop skills more readily. read

| Are the Instructors Qualified? |
| |
Our most senior Instructors have
been registered in Hong Kong with the ‘Ving Tsun Athletic Assoc’,
and such are fully recognized instructors internationally. The ‘Ving
Tsun Athletic Assoc was originally formed by Grand Master Yip Man and
remains the foremost Wing Chun body in the world, it’s members
are a who’s who of the Wing Chun community.
Furthermore, all of our instructors
(and Assistant Instructors) have been thoroughly trained by the UK Wing
Chun Kung Fu Assoc. Our training involves a three year teacher training/apprenticeship
program. Many of our instructors are first aid trained by St John Ambulance
and members of the Professional Martial Arts Assocation. |
| Will I Get Hurt In Class? |
| |
No. We take every precaution to ensure
the safety of our students. Although, you may get severely injured in
a real fight, we take physical conditioning and preparations seriously.
Therefore, you should expect some bruising or minor abrasions in a class
from time to time. The aim is to improve your ability to defend yourself,
and not to injure you each time you attend a class. We feel that we have
a perfect balance when training students to protect themselves, i.e. you
will be allowed to train hard within a safe friendly environment. NB.
We do have a policy against bullying. |
| What Does A Typical Class Consist Of? |
| |
Typically a class begins with a warm up,
then progresses to drills for punching and striking efficiency on pads
and then on to work with a partner. The majority of any class is ‘hands
on’ with a partner. Many different facets will be trained, from
self defence to visualisation and meditation. |
