THE WING CHUN ADVANCED CLASS
In order to progress to the Advanced Wing Chun class in the London Wing Chun Academy, students are expected to demonstrate a complete understanding of the application of the Sui Nim Tao (1st) Form and should be able to demonstrate a perfect interpretation of this highly regarded martial arts form. Once an intermediate student is able to fulfil this criteria they are accepted as an elite Wing Chun practitioner within our martial arts academy.
Advanced Wing Chun students are simple that. They talented individuals that have grasped the concepts of Wing Chun from a beginners self-defence perspective and an intermediates students focus on the art. With the basic building blocks of this martial art, Advanced Wing Chun students progress onwards to focus more specifically on the advanced Chum Kiu (2nd) Form, the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy Form, and the infamous Biu Jee (3rd) Form. We’ve found in the UK Wing Chun Association that a structured progression from the basic towards the more advance elements of the art develops a better ability to absorb more advanced and contemporary methods of fighting at a later stage.
For that reason, our advanced syllabus involves focus on both the traditional and contemporary fighting application of Wing Chun. This includes free hand sparring (with and without guard hand contact), bridging practice as an application of the Chum Kui form, advanced Chi Gerk and kicking training which derives from advanced practice on the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy Form. Rather, our advanced Wing Chun syllabus is all encompassing and comparable with other combative martial arts such as boxing, mixed martial arts, and kickboxing. Here, we expect our Advanced Wing Chun students to be able to kick, punch, and fight just as effectively as any boxer or kickboxer and still remain faithful to the interpretation of the Wing Chun Kung Fu.
Our Advance Wing Chun practitioners have that extra dimension of fully understanding the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu, while being able to apply the art in a multitude of contexts.
